The Opening of the Staircase Galleries @ Government Center @ Government
Feb 20 @ 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

The Opening of the City Employee Art Show in the Staircase Galleries at Government Center will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 from 5-7 PM.  Mayor Jasiel Correia II will welcome artists and guests, refreshments will be served, and Michael Labossiere, City Forester, and Meredith Kelly will entertain with music selections on piano and violin.  Eight employees of various City departments are showing their work from painting to needlework, photography to graphic design.  The employees are Eugene Borges, Robert Cloutier, Fellisha Desmarais, Sandy Fisher, Armanda Geraldes, John Lincourt, Gayle Orlando, Vinnie Pavao, and an employee’s granddaughter, Willow Torres.

Since 2009, the Staircase Galleries have displayed the artwork and creativity of residents of all ages from pre-schoolers to veterans!  The Galleries encourage and welcome visitors and employees to TAKE THE STAIRS, and increase their physical activity in small incremental steps. The Mass in Motion Municipal Leadership Grant, funded by the MA Department of Public Health and private health insurers in Massachusetts, is awarded to Cities that are committed to improving the health of residents, and preventing chronic disease.  This is accomplished by improving policies, systems and environments.  Complete Streets is an example of policy change that will, over time, make City streets safe for all users from 8 to 80-thus an environment change. The Staircase Galleries is also an example of a change in environment.
