The Healthy Eating/Active Living (HEAL) Task Force brings together the many resources that contribute to improved nutrition and increasing the activity levels of adults and children in the Greater Fall River Area. Working closely with the Mass In Motion Project, this Task Force also seeks to improve the physical environment to enable multi-modal transportation, greater use of parks and open spaces, and resources designed to increase physical fitness.
HEAL has formed a subcommittee Health At Every Size (HAES) that is working to shift society’s focus on weight and size, that leads to blame and shame and instead develop and encourage intuitive eating habits and the pleasure of physical activity. We adopt the Fall River School Department’s shift to this model and are working to bring it to parents and providers of young children. We are eager to have interested parents and providers join our membership.
Additionally this year, HEAL will be working to reduce the SNAP GAP, where eligible people in Greater Fall River do not apply for and utilize SNAP (food) benefits and maintain the Healthy Initiative Program (HIP).
