Monthly support groups held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from 5:30pm – 7:00pm  for any grandparent raising their grandchildren.

Parenting Journey I @ People, Incorporated

Parenting Journey is open to parents ages birth to 6 years. No matter where you are from, no matter what your background, you are welcome! We work with mothers, fathers, and caregivers from all walks of life in their parenting journey.

This is an opportunity for you to uncover your inner strength and establish your goal.

  • Identify your personal strengths
  • Learn to tackle everyday stressors and challenging situations
  • Strengthen your support network
  • Start accomplishing your personal goals
  • Learn strategies to tale better care of yourself
  • Learn about community resources

Building Your Futures | Building Pathways South @ Temple Landing Community Room

  • Are you a woman stuck in a low-income, dead-end job and looking for a career that can support you and your family?
  • Are you willing to work hard and get your hands dirty?
  • Make your own wooden toolbox and learn about being a woman in the building trades.

Building Pathways South is a 6-week class to prepare you for a union apprenticeship in the building trades. Applications are due Friday, August 27, 2018. You must be at least 18, be willing to take a drug test, be strong and have a driver’s license (or plan to get one) and reliable transportation. 

building Pathways South is a collaboration between the Brockton & Vicinity Building Trades Council, the Southeastern Massachusetts Building Trades Council and the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts. The project is fiscally sponsored by the Coalition for Social Justice Education Fund and will serve residents of the SouthCoast and South Shore regions of the state.

Dance Night This @ First Congregational Church

This social ballroom dance event is held on the third Saturday of every month from 7p.m. to 10 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. with a lesson at 7:45. Light refreshments & water is available with general dancing until 10 p.m.

About Miles for SMILES
The Tenth Annual Miles for SMILES will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018.

By participating in Miles for SMILES by running and walking you will help create, support, and sustain mentoring relationships right here in the community. SMILES greatest challenge continues to be obtaining sustainable funding necessary to properly support SMILES so that we can continue to provide quality programming throughout schools in our region.

Racers are also encouraged to create fundraising pages by logging onto www.firstgiving.com/SMILES/Mfs2018
By helping fundraise for Miles for SMILES, you will help fulfill the mission of SMILES mentors to educate, inspire and engage leaders of the future.

Course
The Miles for SMILES race is a closed course race that will take place in the Fall River Industrial Park, just outside of 900 Riggenbach Road. Runners and walkers will be experience the scenic views of the industrial park while completing this semi challenging course.

5K Awards
Top three male and top three female finishers will receive awards.

Kids’ Fun Run
Kids ages 12 and under are invited to run a fun run course. Registration for the fun run is only available the day of the race with a parent/guardian present.
Top finishers in the following age categories will be awarded:
Top finisher in 5 years and under category
Top finisher in 6-9 years old category
Top finisher in 10-12 years old category

Bib Pickup
On Friday, April 20 from 1pm-4pm bib and t-shirt pickup will be available at People, Incorporated, 4 South Main Street Fall River, MA 02721. Participants are allowed to pick up other participants bibs but may not register another participant for the race.
Sunday, April 22 bib and t-shirt pickup will be at 900 Riggenbach Road from 8:00 am- 9:00 am. Same day registration will be available, however it is suggested that runners preregister.

Parking on the street and in some select lots will be available. Please check back for more information as the race date approaches.

Race Festivities
This family-friendly event will be celebrating the accomplishments of participants with an awards ceremony, food, face painting and a photo booth.

RSVP…Compassion Fatigue Training @ Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School | Room 251 Restaurant

This month’s very important training will focus on Compassion Fatigue presented by Derek Foulds, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, as well as an Assistant Clinical Director and Program Director at Family Service Association. 

Objectives for the training include:

  • define stress, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress and burnout.
  • complete a compassion fatigue self-test.
  • discuss the phases of compassion fatigue.
  • discuss how the nervous system response to stress.
  • discuss strategies to develop effective self-care.
  • discuss what supervisors can do to help staff members improve their effectiveness and decrease burnout.
  • discuss how to practice mindfulness.
  • discuss magazine article re: myths about self-compassion. What keeps us from being kinder to ourselves?
