Community Family Forum – Adversity to Advocacy
The goal of Cory’s Cause is to help families by sharing Cory’s story in the hopes of educating individuals and their families about drug addiction and providing support and resources for treatment. Cory was a varsity baseball and football athlete as well as a member of the National Honor Society. During his junior year of high school, he suffered a shoulder injury which required surgery.
After surgery, Cory was prescribed opiates for pain and became addicted to the pain medication. Unfortunately, this led to a heroin addiction. On July 15, 2013, Cory suffered a heroin overdose that left him permanently disabled. Currently, Cory and his family talk to students about the dangers of drugs and offer a message of hope for those who are faced with addiction.
All parents and youth in the Greater Fall River area are welcome to attend this Community Family Forum regarding youth substance abuse prevention.
